Following some extremely intensive and busy working weeks the time had finally arrived. Reiter Engineering was able to conduct the first extensive test-drives with the racing car that has resulted from their cooperation with KTM. And the KTM X-BOW GT4 passed the two-day tests with flying colors. There were a number of long runs with the car on the 2.7 km circuit near Venice and in total the latest GT4 racing car put in almost 400 laps.
Team boss Hans Reiter, who was personally there for these very important first test-drives was extremely satisfied at the end of both days. “The first extended tests drives are the most critical phase in the development of a new racing car. All the components have to work together for the first time under a full load. You can see how the temperature balance really is for the first time, whether the aerodynamics work as intended or whether the tire wear is within the right parameters. After these two days in Italy we have to say that the KTM X-BOW GT4 has exceeded our expectations. Initially we had a small problem with the engine temperature but we were quickly able to rectify that. After that the car ran without any problems. Everyone knows how demanding the Adria Raceway is when it comes to thermals and especially for the brakes. It worked perfectly, it kept it altogether – and the car was also very fast. Now with the experience we have gained, we’ll concentrate on putting in place what we have learned as quickly as possible, and then build the first customers cars so we can begin shipping within weeks.”
As well as Reiter Engineering’s Czech test driver Tomáš Enge, Naomi Schiff, the newly engaged driver for the KTM X-BOW GT4 was also behind the wheel. The 21-year old Belgian was equally enthusiastic about her new work tool after the first kilometers. “Thanks to KTM I have been able to drive the KTM X-BOW RR, the open-class racing version, over the past couple of weeks. That was really great and it is massive fun to drive that car. I never thought it’s possible that the GT4 would be such a step up. But thanks to the modified geometry, the aerodynamics, the sequential gearbox and the racing ABS, this car drives even better. Now I can hardly wait for the season to start. I am sure that the KTM X-BOW GT4 is going to give us a lot of pleasure!”
